"Mumblers of Words"

Some favorite quotes from the poete et militant Aime Cesaire:

"And above all, my body as well as my soul, beware of assuming the sterile attitude of a spectator, for life is not a spectacle, a sea of miseries is not a proscenium, a man screaming is not a dancing bear..."

"we sing of venomous flowers
flaring in fury-filled prairies"

—from "Notebook of a Return to the Native Land" 1983 translation.

I find it ironic that you choose that first quote among your favorites. If you are, as I suspect, a 5 like me, well... one of our designations is "the observer" or "the thinker." Personally, I think both of these things are varieties of active participation but 5s are known for gathering their information-- and processing it-- from the sidelines. Though, of course, we are often paradoxically on the vanguard of eccentricity because we are better equipped to understand what we SEE! And I do still think you are rather 5-ish.

you really should read the entire poem. i think you would find a likeness there, in that you are involved in/concerned with racism and the history of oppressed and enslaved peoples. the reason i chose the first quote is simply because some things need action and not thought!
if you loved "Beloved", you would love this poem.
